Meet Dizzy, a so-called Old English Bulldog. I say so-called because it's not an official AKC breed. It's an attempt to back-breed the original English Bulldog. Modern English Bulldogs have been bred into a genetic cul-de-sac. The short English Bulldog nose creates breathing problems and their stylized frame with the big chest and tiny waist create mating and birthing problems. So, Dizzy's breed is a step on the path to fixing those problems.
She is a rescue, from a breeder. That's right. Not a typo. We bought her from a breeder on the other side of the state. We hadn't met her and had been duped by the miscreants that bred her. Once we met her, we could see that she had been horribly treated. She was a psychological mess, but we couldn't leave her in the hands of those schmucks. Besides, as per the shitty-breeder handbook, they already had our money.
Long story short, she's much improved but still very timid and easily frightened. Despite that, she dominates Butters. There is no question that she is alpha around our house, at least among the dogs.
Her name? It just fits.
